Fair Share Of The Wedding Expenses

It has been a tradition that during weddings, it is the groom who pays for everything. By everything, I mean everything, even the littlest thing like the bride’s stockings. Poor old grooms, they have to shoulder everything. No doubt, they have to wait for years before they decide to get married. But things have change now. The bride has her own share of the expenditures now.

In some parts of the world, the tradition lives on. But in most parts, it has already been altered. It isn’t fair that the groom alone will shoulder all the expenses. After all, the wedding is both the bride and groom’s day and not just the groom’s day. So sharing with the expenses has become the new wedding tradition.

Sharing The Expenses

So what does the bride and her family pay for and what are shouldered by the groom and his family? In general, this is how all the wedding expenses are divided:

What goes into the bride’s financial responsibility are as follow:

Food. In most cases, food, including the reception fees and beverages are shouldered by the bride’s family. The girl has more preferences regarding foods so it is fair that the bride takes this responsibility.
Flowers for the bride, bridesmaids and wedding venue/reception decorations.
Photography. This includes the fee for the professional photographer and the fee for the photos once they are already developed.
Invitations.
Wedding gown and bride’s accessories.

What goes into the groom’s financial responsibility are as follow:

Wedding ring. There are cases; however, when the couple decides that the bride buys the groom’s ring while the groom provides the bride’s ring.
Fees for marriage documents.
Fees for officiating minister, choir and other ceremony fees.
Wedding transportation. This normally includes the hiring of a limousine service. The groom pays for whatever the limousine hire company asks in exchange of a luxury wedding limo hire.
Honeymoon package if the couple wants to have an extra special honeymoon.

Gone are the days when all expenses are to be shouldered by the groom. We live in a world that fosters equality on both sexes. So whatever the guys can do, the women can. It seems like this notion has influenced even wedding.

A lot of times, couples share a bank account where they put all their savings on for their wedding. So all the wedding expenses are taken from that shared account. Or sometimes they share equal amounts of money and just budget it for all their wedding needs.
