NASCAR Crashes - Dramatic and Spectacular
NASCAR crashes has been around for a very long time. They have been a regular occurrence since the beginning of the sport. It makes sense that when you place high powered vehicles on a track, add speed and adrenalin, NASCAR crashes are inevitable. The mere occurrence of NASCAR crashes is not what alarms devoted fans and leaders of the sport. Crashes are a part of the sport, what is shocking is the fan's response to these crashes.
With the popularity of the sport on the rise, more and more fans are seeking out footage of old crashes. Archived footage of NASCAR crashes can be found on sites like YouTube in ever increasing numbers, and their view count illustrates the popularity. With every new crash that occurs, searches for that driver's name increases, in addition to an increased sales of driver merchandise.
Why Such Morbid Interest?
The fascination starts with the idea of chancing lady luck and staring mortality in the face. Intrigue with NASCAR crashes has a lot to do with drivers boldly taking on something that is extremely dangerous due to the speeds involved. When a driver crashes and lives, it stirs interest simply because for a moment, that driver stared possible death in the face and walked away. And when a driver loses his life, it stirs deep emotions in millions of people. Perhaps it causes people to look at their own mortality. If a seemingly untouchable can lose his life, then death can and will come for all. People are generally interested in the well-being and demise of celebrities, but somehow the drama of a NASCAR wreck sparks an even greater interest.
Another, less spiritual reason people are fascinated with NASCAR crashes, has to do with the commercial side of life. When a driver crashes in NASCAR, interest in that driver increases and as a result, the price of that drivers merchandise can also increase. Many vendors and collectors of NASCAR memorabilia, watch with great interest whenever a crash is reported, because with that crash comes the opportunity to make money. Sites such as eBay see a spike in NASCAR sales whenever a crash occurs in NASCAR. People seem to think that when a NASCAR superstar crashes or is killed in a crash, buying their merchandise is a smart investment.
