When you have a debit card, you no longer have to worry about your check being accepted when you are dealing with businesses or when you are out of town. They are great for purchasing airline tickets or reserving a hotel room on line.

Overall there really are no disadvantages of having a debit card. They do not accumulate high interest because they only use the cash that you have and is not from a line of credit. Even if your card is stolen, it cannot be accessed without a pin number. You can report loss or theft just as you would with a credit card.
