Food to Buy Insurance By

There was no food in the house and a whole lot of domestic whatsits to be sorted out. Ok, it wasn’t exactly like there was no food at all in the house. There was stuff you could soak in water overnight before it was remotely edible, an egg, some dried seaweed and a tin of mushy peas. My dilemma was I wanted something nice to eat, to set me up for an afternoon of doing boring stuff like electricity meter readings and renewing the home insurance, but I didn’t want to waste time going to the shops. I needed to make something out of what I could find, that I would like, therefore giving me the mental energy to do mindless household business.

I look again in the fridge and cupboards; I could cycle down to the supermarket. I could. But it’s time and money. I examine the tins: tomatoes, sweet corn …asparagus? I’m not making decisions. This is not good. I should be making firm decisions then getting on with things. I make for the door to go out and buy some proper food that’s going to make me feel good but I know that the good feeling will be outweighed by the bad feeling that I’ve succumbed to the temptation of more tasty food rather than made do with what was available.

This is all about trying to be sensible. I turn back to the kitchen and without thinking gather up a motley crew of ingredients. I do hope they’re going to get on in the cooking pot.

Seaweed, egg, cabbage strips and some herbs and spices all get fried, together with some shredded potato. It’ll be alright with the tinned tomatoes I tell myself. After this meal, I’ll be able to whiz through the home insurance application. Maybe get some home insurance quotes first though. Shop around – it’s the best thing really.

This, I think, is the first time I’ve knowingly eaten seaweed, and it tastes alright in the mix of things. There’s a lot left over, maybe someone else will like it. Maybe I’ve made something new and really special that I should give a name.

Perhaps not. Let the others be the judge of my skills. The electricity meter reading took precisely 47 seconds including writing down the numbers. No big deal.

Home insurance on the telephone was a bit fiddly, lots of numbers to dial and trying to speak to people that seemed weren’t the right department or something. I try looking at the same home insurance companies online.

Home insurance on the web is simple and straightforward. I save each quote as I go along, then print out a comparison sheet from a comparison web site and see what the best home insurance on offer is.

Then instead of buying home insurance online I then call them to make sure, and then just buy it there and then with my debit card.

Now, time to make a pudding!
