The Impact of Point Loma Real Estate

Point Loma is a seaside neighborhood in San Diego, California. The Europeans first discovered Point Loma on September 28, 1542 when Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo departed from Mexico and led an expedition to explore the West Coast which is now known as part of the United States. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo was very impressed with the San Diego Bay and it is believed that he most likely docked his flagship on the east shore of Point Loma at Ballast Point.

The layout of Point Loma is very unique and contributes to why so many people are attracted to the Point Loma real estate market. Point Loma houses the western terminus of Interstate 8 and this travels along the Northern end of the peninsula. Rosecrans is the main and longest street that travels through the town of Point Loma and it is the main North/South Avenue that serves the entire bayside of Point Loma. There is another street known as Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and this is the North/South ocean side avenue, but both of these streets (Rosecrans and Sunset Cliffs) run parallel to each other. Some of the other streets that are major traffic pipelines in Point Loma are Sports Arena Boulevard, West Point Loma Boulevard and Nimitz Boulevard. Because Point Loma has both and ocean and a bay side, the sections are laid out in a type of grid pattern. This makes for larger ocean side blocks than the bay side ones. The grid pattern pretty much breaks down as both sides approach the center of the town which is very hilly.

There are many historical landmarks that also help to make Point Loma real estate a coveted part of the California real estate market. Probably the best known landmark in all of Point Loma is the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. This landmark is even sometimes used to represent the entire city of San Diego. This icon is set atop the southern point that creates the entrance of the bay with Coronado. The lighthouse is very small and is only two stories, but it is large in history. It was completed in 1854 and was lit for the very first time on November, 15, 1855. Today, the beautiful historic lighthouse is partially open to the public and has since been refurbished to its historic 1880s interior.

By taking a trip through this amazing seaside town, it is easy to see why people are flocking to the Point Loma real estate market. This town is founded and built on history and will continue to welcome new and old dwellers for years to come.
