6 Tips That Can Make You Sleep Better

Are you one of the millions of people who find it difficult to get to sleep at night and stay asleep until morning? So many have this problem and resort to all sorts of things to try and fall asleep easier and make it last longer. Nothing is worse than finally falling asleep only to realize it is already time to get up again. If you are tired of taking sleeping aids all the time to get decent sleep, try some of the following tips and see if they help.

1.When you try to fall asleep all stressed out, you can lie there for hours letting your mind wonder about the next day, financial or family problems, other things that prevent sleep from coming. Make a conscious effort to think about more pleasant and relaxing things. This might take a week or two to work, but when you learn to leave the problems outside the bedroom door, it should help.

2.Do not go to sleep with the television on. Listening to something on television will often keep you awake longer because you can not help but hear what is being said. Try listening to soft, wordless music if you think you must have sound of some kind.

3.Never drink or eat right before going to bed. Some foods can be hard to digest and drinking too much can wake you up to go to the bathroom even after you fall asleep. Stay away from caffeine drinks and anything with sugar even earlier in the evening when you have trouble going to sleep. This is just common sense.

4.Many people can not stand the sound of a dripping faucet when they are trying to sleep, but a gently falling water fountain can make a lot of difference. It should not be very loud, just enough trickling sound to soothe your way into slumber. It might also help you think those relaxing thoughts more easily. You can buy CD's that combine soft music and water sounds.

5.Make sure your mattress suits you. If you find yourself trying to sleep, but turning over and over during the night, you might need a new mattress. The pillow you use is also important as well as the pajamas you wear or not wear. Any of these things can be distracting when you are trying to rest.

6.If you sleep with a light on, try sleeping with it off. It has been proven that your body responds well to sleeping when there is no light.

If you try all of or a combination of these things and still can not rest well at night, maybe you should see your doctor and get some further advice from him. If we do not sleep well, we do not function well during the day. Sleeping well will make your daylight hours much easier to handle and enjoy without being tired and irritable.
