Get Exercising For Your Skin

Whether we actually make a commitment to ourselves to exercise or not, we all know by now that exercise is something that promotes good health in people of every age.

A moderate amount of exercise can reduce cholesterol. It can strengthen muscles including the heart, keep bones strong longer and many, many other fantastic things that we keep hearing about everywhere we go. There are posters up at the medical clinic telling us that exercise should be part of our lives.

Almost every magazine we read has at least one article that talks about exercise and what a wonderful health tool it is. It is on the television everyday as well.

Besides everything you have heard about the great benefits that exercise can have on your body, have you ever heard about what it can do for your skin? Our skin is an often neglected part of our bodies.

We take it for granted and forget that it needs more attention than just throwing on some lotion before we jump into bed every night.

Your skin is one of the largest organs of your body. Yes, it actually is an organ! As an organ, your skin needs to be nourished and taken care of in much the same way as your other organs and just as exercise has proven benefits for your heart, muscles and bones it most certainly provides some benefits to your skin as well.

Your skin is meant to work as an exchange with the world outside your body. One example of this is how the skin can take in the sun and provide the rest of the body with essential vitamin D.

The skin also exchanges by sweating. We may not think sweating is a very pleasant topic, but sweating is something that is essential for good health too. Toxins that your body wants to get rid of can often come out in sweat.

What is the best way to sweat? Exercise! You got it. Simple exercising that works up a sweat can help your body cleanse the inside by releasing chemicals and toxins through the skin.

What a marvellous little cleansing machine you are walking around in. If you do not work up a sweat your body will try to dispose of these chemicals and toxins in another manner, but it will take longer which means they will be inside you causing harm for longer.

Another good example of the benefit of exercise to the skin is in its elasticity. Our skin stretches and shrinks with us during all our different phases of our lives. When we gain a little weight, it adjusts to our new size.

When a woman grows in pregnancy her skin is really put to the test and still does just fine. Often when we lose weight however, it seems that our skin takes much longer to tighten back up than it did to stretch out when we got larger. Exercise can help strengthen the muscles underneath and help the skin respond to its new size by tightening up a little.

Remember that your skin is a very visible part of your body and healthy skin always looks better than unhealthy skin. And when you think about finally making that commitment to yourself with regard to some kind of exercise program or regimen, think about the rewards you will be letting yourself in for.

And when you think of what kinds of benefits you would be letting yourself into by starting up an exercise program of some sort, add your skin to the list of body parts that will thank you.

Your skin will look and feel as great as you feel inside it!
