Tattoo Equipment - What You Need To Know

For many people looking to get their first tattoo done, the whole procedure is somewhat of a mystery to them. They often know that it involves needles of some kind, but don't really know anything about the equipment that is used. This knowledge, however, certainly helps calm a lot of fears.

Once you know what equipment is used then the whole idea of getting a tattoo done is nowhere near as daunting. When you walk into a tattoo parlour you will probably see a lot of equipment but the truth is that the only things you need to know about are the tattoo gun itself and the sterlization equipment that is used.

The tattoo gun is the main implement used to administer your tattoo. Indeed it is the tattoo gun that uses needles to penetrate ink into the outer layer of your skin to create the tattoo. You don't need to concern yourself about the tattoo gun because as long as it is being operated by an experienced tattoo artist, then there is nothing to worry about. These items are designed to be as painless as possible.

As regards the needles themselves, there are two different types of needle used. There's the liner needle which is very often a single needle used to create the outline of your tattoo design, and the shader needle which is usually several needles combined together to shade in and provide colour to the tattoo.

So the main equipment used by the tattoo artist is the tattoo gun which itself consists of two different types of needles. This is all you really need to know about tattoo equipment, although you should also be aware of the sterilization equipment used.

In this day and age the majority of tattoo parlours are extremely good when it comes to sterilizing all of their equipment to prevent any infections or diseases being passed on from person to person. However not all tattoo parlours are as efficient about health and safety as they should be.

When choosing a tattoo artist you should always ask them about their sterilization procedure before they start creating your tattoo. They should be using an autoclave to sterilize all of their equipment after each procedure. This is basically an item found in hospitals that uses steam and pressure to make sure all equipment is fully sterilized.

So to sum up, the basic tattoo equipment you need to be aware of are the tattoo gun and needles, and the autoclave. Once you know a little bit about the equipment that is used, then your fears about getting your first tattoo done will soon disappear.
