The Difference Between A Deodorant And Antiperspirant

Sweating is the natural function that the body performs in order to keep itself cool. How much a person sweats depends on a number of factors such as weather conditions and also just how active that person actually is.

A person is sweating all the time and there will be times when the sweating is more active. This clearly varies from when you are sleeping, eating to performing some very active exercise. So the more you sweat the more you need to clean your body in order to remove any body odour.

Overall the human body has nearly three million sweat glands so you can be quite certain that on a daily basis you are going to sweat. But how do you know what is good to use after all people sweating does vary greatly?

But what seems to catch a lot of people out is that there are not fully aware of what a deodorant is what an antiperspirant is.

A deodorant is no more than a body spray and this stops you from smelling bad. Whereas a antiperspirant, as the name suggests, actually stops you from sweating and it does this by clogging the sweat glands.

So a deodorant will not stop you from sweating. It will simply hide away any foul body odour. That is the essential difference between the two items.

Now an antiperspirant is much better than a deodorant but there is a concern over the use of such products in excessive amounts given the amount of synthetic ingredients that they contain.

They have been isolated reports of deaths occurring where a teenage used an entire deodorant spray in one usage, so there is some suggestions to show that such sprays are not safe in excess amounts.

Given the health risks associated with using such man-made sprays there are just two alternatives.

The first is to use nothing at all and go through the day knowing that you smell and repelling the people around you.

The second alternative is to use a natural antiperspirant that is free from chemicals such as Parabens. One such alternative is a mineral stone deodorant, which is essentially rock salt, and these are very effective in killing off bacteria that cause body odour.

Of course what you use does come down to personal choice, but you should still make sure that whatever you do use it is kind to your skin and not likely to cause any long term damage.

Whilst we all want to feel clean and fresh, the process of sweating is as natural as breathing. So do not try to stop it!
