What You Need to Know About Breast Implants

Breast size can be a sensitive topic for a lot of women because it affects the way that clothes fit, the way that they view themselves and the way that men view them as well. A few women would rather have smaller chests than they do, but plastic surgery trends suggest that the majority would rather be larger than nature made them. If you are considering a breast implant, you need to be well-informed about the different implant materials, the procedure, the cost and the doctors who will be taking care of you.

Breast implants are usually made of two different materials: silicone and saline. According to the FDA, saline implants are slightly safer. After all, the salt and water solution inside of them has no adverse effects on the body in the event of a rupture. No matter which material you choose, it is also important to find the right size. Personal preference obviously plays a part in the size of your implants, but physical balance also needs to be taken into account. With his or her experience, the doctor will probably have some good recommendations on which sizes would be appropriate.

During the procedure, an incision is made one of four places: between the breasts, under the breasts, in the armpit or through the navel. Saline implants allow the doctor to make smaller incisions than silicone implants. The operation usually only takes one or two hours and many patients can start light exercise, like walking, a few days after the surgery. It could take as long as a month to work back up to contact sports and weight lifting though.

As far as price goes, it will always vary depending on the doctor you choose and the facility you visit for the procedure but in general, some states are much more affordable than others. For example, plastic surgery in Utah costs less than plastic surgery in California. This means that a breast implant in San Diego will probably be more expensive than the same procedure in Salt Lake City.

When you choose a doctor, the first things you should look for are their education and their experience. Are they board certified? Have they performed the same surgery often or occasionally? After all, some doctor's specialize in certain procedures. You also want to be comfortable with them, so personality might even play a minor role in your choice.
Hopefully, these guidelines can help you find the right material, size, doctor and facility for your own breast implants if you are still interested in the procedure.
