Learning To Live Smoke Free

If you are someone who still smokes cigarettes, then you are probably thinking about quitting or have already tried and failed. You are probably smart enough to know that quitting is what you should do, but it is a scary thought to stop smoking once you have been addicted to it for so long. There are some things that you just can not imagine doing without a cigarette.

Many people feel a recurring urge to have a cigarette as soon as their feet hit the floor in the morning. Then if you are a coffee drinker, you probably need to have one then to. Actually, there is not many things that are worse in your mouth than the aftertaste of coffee and cigarette smoke, not to mention how offensive smelling it is to others who get too close too you.

Besides the bad breath you get from smoking, it stains your teeth terribly and makes your hair and clothes smell like an ashtray. If you could really smell yourself as well as others do, you would definitely want to quit. It can be terrible to live in the house or work with someone who smokes when they do not.

Of course, the smell and teeth stains are really nothing compared to what it is doing to your throat and lungs. We all know how severe throat and lung cancer can be. It is deadly. Even knowing all this, it is still not enough to make some people dedicate themselves to quitting. It makes you wonder exactly what it would take. It takes a tremendous amount of will power. You have to want to quit more than you want to smoke.

You might start just by cutting down one or two cigarettes a day. Try not smoking a cigarette as soon as you get up. Try having your coffee without a smoke and see how much better your coffee actually tastes. Another thing smoking does is limit how much you really taste food. Many people who have stopped smoking notice a new intensity in the taste of what they eat. Perhaps this is one reasons why ex smokers sometimes gain weight easily, but it is more likely because they need a replacement for cigarettes and it is often food.

If you are trying to quit smoking, try exercising instead of eating. You will probably have more stamina for exercise once you truly start cutting down on how much you smoke. If you over eat while you are quitting or after you have quit, exercise is a good way to keep the extra pounds at bay. You should talk to a doctor when you want to quit and see what else he or she can recommend to help you be successful.
