This lets the E coli re-infect the urinary tract, and it will be resistant to the next course of medication. Then another course is prescribed, and instead of killing the bacteria, it just turns it into a stronger strain.

The major problem with urinary tract infections that are not cured with antibiotics is they can then spread to the kidneys where the infection can damage them.
