What To Do When You're On Fire With A Fever

Just being sick with a cold, the flu, or an even more serious condition can make you feel absolutely miserable. Body aches, runny or a stuffed up nose, coughing, headache, sweating, and sneezing are all common symptoms of both. The one thing that can make it all even worse is a mild to high fever. This can make you feel like your body is burning up and your energy level is nil. A high fever can keep you home from work or school easily because you just will not feel like even getting out of bed.

When a fever goes pretty high from 101 degrees or higher, it is sometimes accompanied by body chills. Fevers are triggered in response to an infection that could be viral or bacterial. Low grade fevers can usually be brought under control by a simple medication like a fever reducer. These can usually accompany a cold or flu, but when there are no flu or cold symptoms to accompany the fever it could be a more serious condition of some kind.

Parents often have to deal with low grade fevers with children. When children receive certain vaccinations they can have a slight temperature increase. Sometimes babies will have a slight fever when they are teething. Often when a child gets a fever, it will rise quickly to a dangerous level. This is when a doctor should be called and medical attention sought immediately. It is always important to watch children very closely when they are ill in case a sudden high temperature occurs. It has been found that children should not be given aspirin products for a fever so you should always consult with their pediatrician as to what they should be given to reduce a fever.

Meningitis is a serious illness that is accompanied by fever. There are also many other serious ailments that cause you to have one. When you have the cold or flu many cold and flu medications have fever reducers in them. Most people will try and use these sorts of products before making a trip to the doctor, but after several days if you have no improvement, it is always wise to go ahead and see a doctor.

If you are having fever regularly for some unexplainable reason, you should see a doctor. There could be an underlying cause that is life threatening and in some cases time might be of the essence. When your body has fever, it definitely means there is a problem that needs to be taken care of somewhere.
