Are You Living In A Toxic Den Of Mold
The best places to start looking for mold in your home are the places that are the easiest to get you that you can check out for yourself. Looking anywhere there could possibly be a water leak are the most obvious areas. Underneath cabinets where there is sink plumbing is a common place for mold because there can be small leaks that develop and go unnoticed for a long enough period of time to make a perfect breeding ground for mold. Around toilets, tubs, and showers are common places too.
If you find mold growing in a cabinet, first you should fix the leak that is causing the problem then you can tackle the mold. Usually if it has not been there long enough to really spread, you can spray the areas with a mold killing product that will disinfect the area. Always go back and check a week or two later to make sure the mold was all killed and has not came back.
Other areas where you can check yourself for mold is in a basement, an attic, behind water using appliances, and in the laundry room. Anytime you find mold growing on ceiling walls and baseboards, it might be caused from a lack of or poor ventilation. Exhaust fans can play a big role in eliminating moisture from rooms like the bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, or basement when there is a lot of moisture on a regular basis.
The solution for mold growth in these kinds of places is to have adequate exhaust fans or dehumidifiers installed. Then you can kill the mold and have a reasonable assurance that it will not return.
Other areas where mold can grow are inside duct work from your heating and cooling system. This could require a professional to check this out and clear up a mold problem there. If there are leaks in the foundation of your home that affect the basement, a professional might be needed to correct this problem as well. When you consult a water damage expert, they will be able to locate other possible mold sources for you in places that you might not suspect.
