Hard Water Stains Don't Have To Be A Problem
A different issue that might be made from water and is not as important, but it will be very aggravating and unpleasant to see is hard water stains. Depending on what the water contains, you will get stains from soap scum, rust, and lime scale. These three substances can build up on the items that water usually comes in connection with like a bathtub, toilet, faucets, and sinks.
What makes lime scale, rust stains, and soap scum on these surfaces so annoying is that they are quite stubborn and hard to take off. Even if you do make them clean, they keep coming back. This sort of staining is created by hard water build up. It is not the water, but what is in the water that is the problem. Hard water usually will have a big amount of minerals in it such as calcium, magnesium, and iron. When hard water is combined with soap that is let dry, this can develop the hard soap scum that is like concrete.
All of these minerals will attach themselves to almost all surfaces that are wet from hard water. With time they will build up and deposit that white hard substance wherever they have been. Wiping down and even hard scrubbing may not remove the hardened scale when it has a good grip on a surface.
These are some things you might do to remove these lime scale deposits and keep them off. It will mean some special cleaning solutions and a little physical exertion too the first time they are eliminated. Chlorine bleach can set in rusty places. Buy a product that contains diluted hydrochloric acid. You should not combine it with chlorine bleach. Follow the instructions very carefully and use a scouring or toilet brush with nylon bristles.
To get off scale accumulation on faucets, buy a stronger cleaning product like Lime-away or CLR. Soak the screens inside the faucet as well. This can be done with the cleaner you bought or soak it for several hours in vinegar, rinse it thoroughly, and put it back. This will make the water run out easier and faster.
For cleaning all of these stains in the bath tub and shower, purchase some liquid comet or lime-away. These solutions will need to be rinsed very well. Shower nozzles can also be soaked in vinegar.
After you have these hard stains removed, make sure to regularly wipe the surfaces when they get wet and frequent cleaning with products like Scrubbing Bubbles or other similar cleaners will help keep them from getting build up once again.
