Learn to Take Care Of Your Roof And Eliminate Most Chances Of Water Damage
The most useful time to examine your attic for ceiling leaks that are infiltrating inside is while it is raining. This is a good way to uncover exactly where the water is originating from. The leaking usually starts due to shingles that have got loose or might have been blown off altogether from either bad weather or inadequate installation. Even if you might have a new roof, it is still a good idea to provide examinations sometimes just to be sure it was expertly done and a bad place does start.
When you catch a leaky area soon enough, any real water devastation will have been stopped. The repair can be as minor as gluing a few missing shingles or if the tar paper underneath is in bad shape, a section of that may need removing too. If the damage has gone beyond this, it can mean redoing a complete roof section, wood and all, when the wood has been wet frequently and started to rot.
When you are not fearful of heights and are fairly useful around the house even taking out a portion of roof might not be more than you can handle. Just be forewarned that climbing up on a housetop can be seriously dangerous and the home owner's insurance agent may prefer you to engage a professional rather than being liable for all the expensive medical bills too if you fall off. If you do attempt the repairs yourself, ensure you begin the job early and are going to a few days of rain free weather before you begin, depending on the extent of the job.
Providing you know that the roof is aging and if you discover it has way too many leaks, your best remedy might be to have the entire house top re-shingled. If there is no destruction found to the wood underneath the shingles, this should be less expensive than lingering about it and eventually having to replace any of the wood as well.
