Nothing can be more debilitating then finding your home flooded with water, all of a sudden. To protect your home from further damage and salvage all the household articles at the earliest, you should recollect our wits and proceed with immediate water damage restoration process, most preferably within the next 24-48 hours of flooding.

If an early action is not taken, the restoration process can prove to be too expensive. So, beginning with the process of water damage restoration as early as feasible is called for to save our home from the potential dangers of flood waters. However, while doing so, we need to keep a few important guidelines regarding what should be done and what should be avoided to get best results after the restoration process.

The Dos during water damage restoration: The first and foremost action should be to switch off the power from the main power point and disconnect all the electrical appliances to reduce any chances of electrocution or short circuits, thus maximizing your safety in the flooded house.

The main aim of water damage restoration is to salvage all the articles to prevent any further damage to them. To achieve this aim, we must remove all the valuables and other household items from the contaminated water at the earliest. Then, we can begin with restoring these items by cleaning and drying to prevent any growth of mold and fungus. Extract as much water as possible by mopping or using a blotting paper.

Humidity is the root cause of all problems in a house inundated with flood waters. So, water damage restoration includes getting rid of humidity and moisture from water damaged home at the earliest. To save all electronic appliances from getting damaged due to excessive humidity, move them to a dry place having humidity levels below 50 percent. However, if you cannot move an electronic appliance, seal proof it to protect from outside humidity and or moisture. Moisture and humidity following floods can cause significant health problems, so we must take immediate steps to eradicate it completely from our home at the earliest.

Next important step for effective restoration includes making the place dry using a dehumidifier and fans since bacteria and mold find a quick and convenient home in humid and drab areas, especially after floods.

Open all the doors and windows to circulate air inside your water-damaged home including your flooded basement for effective water damage restoration.

Furniture that has been affected by flood waters should be wiped before drying to expedite the drying process. Open all drawers and closet doors to prevent any mold growth and speed up the water damage restoration process for these household items.

Move all important photographs and other valuable items to a dry place at the earliest to prevent them from further damage.

The Donts during water damage restoration: Do not use any water-damaged electrical appliance before a competent electrician has checked the main supplies.

Do not enter a flooded home before switching off the power from the main switch of the house and the main gas pipeline.

Dont allow kids and elderly people in a flooded home during water damage restoration.
