A Special Kind of Pheromone
In mammals, pheromones have been supposed for a long time to be very active in sexual communication but the difficulty has always been to isolate the effective molecule. Starting with the same ideas as in insects, it could seem impossible to identify in the huge amount of secreted products, the significant part. Pheromones are often monomolecular in insects, but complex in mammals. A new track was found by chromatography analysis allowing isolation of some simple and consistently present elements that, put together in specific proportions, could reproduce the same effect as the natural pheromone. This new method has been initiated by Patrick Pageat and his team at Pherosynthese (France). This then lead to the discovery of the facial pheromonal complex of the cat and to synthesize the analogues of pheromones that had clinically very interesting effects.
The appeasing pheromones are a complex mixture of fatty acids such as, linoleic, oleic and palmitic acids or derivatives thereof derived from secretions of mammalian mammary glands. The compositions can be utilized to decrease stress, anxiety and aggressiveness in mammals. Classifying the different pheromones according to their composition allows a new observation: dogs, cats, and humans have a very close match, and maybe this can explain a little why dogs, cats, and humans can get closer to each other so soon.
The place where the appeasing pheromones are produced depends on the species. In mammals with many teats, such as dogs and cats, the pheromone is produced by the inter-teat line. In cows and mares, there is a special place at the internal face of the thigh, called wax zone without hair and just in front of the udder.
The production of appeasing pheromones is started from the moment of the birth itself. The production of these pheromones is more during lactation, just after the parturition etc.
In France the dog appeasing pheromones are widely in use by the name DAP. Dogs get aggressive sooner and get panic when the master is not with him. In such cases these dog appeasing pheromones play a very important role to control the emotions of the dog. Pheromones have been developed and launched for other chemicals also like pigs, horses, cows, chicks etc to keep them cool during their transportation or after they have given birth to a baby. Using the appeasing pheromone decreases the level of stress related to the intrusion. Totally, these pheromones are a special kind of pheromones which will give you a relaxing effect.
