All About Jewelry Made From Titanium

Titanium is a mineral and it was discovered in 1791 by an amateur geologist named William Gregor in Cornwall, England. He made the discovery when some black sand by a stream attracted a magnet. When the sand was analyzed two metals were found, iron oxide and a white metallic oxide that could not be identified.

He reported this metal to the Royal Geological Society of Cornwall. A few years later there were others who also discovered this white oxide metal. A German chemist eventually called the metal titanium for the Titans of Greek mythology. Pure metallic titanium was not produced until 1910 by a gentleman named Matthew A. Hunter.

It was not until 1946 that titanium was used out side a laboratory for commercial purposes. The Kroll process, named for William Justin Kroll who came up with the best process for titanium production, is still the method used for its production today. Titanium is used as an alloy for other metals used commercially, as well as a metal used by its self.

Titanium is a very hard and strong metal and is resistant to corrosion. It can also withstand moderately high temperatures. Titanium alloys are used in many things such as aircraft and naval ship parts, as well as missiles and spacecraft.

Approximately two thirds of all the titanium metal that is produced is used for aircraft engines and frames. Some titanium is used for high end automobile products. It is also used in some sporting good products and medical tools. The production of titanium is expensive and cheaper ways for its production continue to be explored.

The jewelry market has adopted the use of titanium for some of the modern styles that have become very popular in recent years. Development in the metal has allowed it to be worked more easily into intricate shapes with the precision that quality jewelry requires.

Because titanium is very durable and long wearing it has become an excellent choice as a jewelry making metal and it is one of the fastest growing areas of jewelry marketed today.

Titanium is being used in many of the jewelry items being produced for men. There are rings, bracelets, chains, pendants, cuff links, and more to choose from. A hard working man can wear this jewelry with little fear of much damage. The jewelry pieces being made from titanium have a very sleek, stylish, modern look that compliments almost anyone's taste.
