Shopping on the Web

Internet Shopping is increasing rapidly. Who is not already shopping on the internet? Internet shopping is the new shopping experience of the future. Internet shopping is easier, safer, and more convenient than at any point in its history. Internet shopping is fast becoming one of the easiest ways to buy almost anything you want. Internet shopping is a way of shopping that allows shopping for required products without going to the store physically. The Internet is great because people are able to shop 24 hours a day without having to leave their home or work.
One of the biggest benefits of shopping online is the convenience and access to more products and information 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The more people that shop online, the bigger their expectations. The supermarket industry now services many customers through online food shopping over the Internet.

The phenomenal success of online retailers such as Amazon and Expedia is proof that internet shopping is practiced - and trusted - by millions. Internet shopping is convenient, provides a wide choice and competitive prices. Internet shopping is a big time-saver. As mentioned above, Internet shopping is very much like conventional in-home shopping from catalogs or mail orders. Despite the toughening competition, Internet shopping is likely to continue to grow.

Internet users connected three years or longer engage in more everyday activities online than newcomers These activities include getting information about and buying products. Shopping scored the most dramatic climb among Internet activities. Forty-two percent of Internet consumers say they regularly or occasionally make a purchase online, an increase of one-third. Out of all online activities, 'making purchases' shot up the most this year. One-third more Internet consumers say they are shopping online. We are seeing the online population become more like the mass market. Internet consumers are becoming more mainstream, as more older Americans and people of more moderate incomes and educational backgrounds went online over the past year.

While online shopping is most popular among more experienced users, it has increased among all online groups, including Internet newcomers. In addition to revealing the rapid growth of e-commerce this year, the study contains evidence that it will continue to grow rapidly in years to come. Thirty-seven percent of all consumers say they will increase the number of purchases they make online in the next few years.

One of the clearest trends identified in the study is that the longer Internet users spend online, the more central the medium becomes to their lives. More than half of U.S. households have high-speed Internet access

Consumers will spend 21% more online this holiday season than they did in 2006. Consumers will spend $33 billion online this holiday season as compared to $27 billion last season. 80% of consumers will buy clothing and accessories, up from 71% last year; 76% will buy books, up from 61%; and 63% will buy computer hardware and software, up from 46% last year.

Not surprisingly, one of the main reasons consumers shop online is the convenience. 81% said the convenience of shopping whenever they wanted was the main reason they chose to shop online over the holidays, while 77% said they shopped online because it saved time. About 46% of consumers said they shopped online for lower prices. Convenience keeps people coming back to the Internet. It's available whenever consumers are ready to shop, offers a wide selection and obviates the need to fight the crowds at the mall.
