Countdown To The Australian Grand Prix 2007
The traditional center for F1 racing is Europe. It continues to remain Formula One's leading market. However, since 1999 races have been held in other places including Bahrain, China and the United States of America. The governing body of F1 racing is Fration Internationale de l'Automobile. The headquarters are in Paris. The next Australian Grand Prix 2007 is to be held in Melbourne.
Melbourne is a great place for the race according to the Australian Grand Prix Corporation. Melbourne is second largest city in Australia and one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan on earth. The climate is great here, specially during late summer. There is always something to do. The people in Melbourne are friendly and the Grand Prix here is extremely well organized.
As a Grand Prix and holiday destination, Melbourne is perfect. There is great choice when it comes to choosing restaurants. Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport is 22 km northwest of the city. It is here that Melbourne's international flights arrive. A taxi is a good way to get to the city from there, alternatively there is a bus service. Melbourne is a pleasurable city to walk around, with its parks, beaches and open spaces.
Australia became part of the Grand Prix Circuit in 1985. Though the Australian Grand Prix is currently held at Albert Park, Melbourne, it was earlier held at Adelaide Street Circuit in Adelaide. Albert Park is a 16-turn circuit and 5.3 kilometers long. It was built utilizing a combination of public roads within the park. Melbourne is usually the first race of the season every year.
The most successful driver in terms of victories is Michael Schumacher. The most successful team is McLaren. Nino Farina was the first to be awarded the drivers championship in 1950. Alberto Ascari was the first driver to win multiple championships, in 1952 and 1953. In 2002, Michael Schumacher clinched the Drivers Championship with six races remaining. Over the years 28 different drivers have won the championships. Schumacher holds the record for maximum number of championships won at seven. The current world champion is Fernando Alonso. He won his second world championship in 2006. F1 and its drivers are usually associated with incredible amounts of glamor and heavily sponsored for this reason.
