Secrets of Using Crappie Tube Jigs to Slam Crappie
When it comes to crappie fishing many anglers now prefer to use tube jigs because these have many advantages over other types of lures.
Tube jigs are very popular for catching crappie because they make it easier for you to catch them under just about any type of fishing conditions. In fact, they are even becoming more popular than fishing with minnows because they are more convenient and easy to use.
You don't have the mess and hassles with tube jigs that you do with live baits so they are easier to take with you anywhere. Plus, you don't have to worry about keeping a cooler with you to keep them fresh.
The newer tube jigs come in a variety of sizes and styles that have greatly enhanced the way they are used for crappie fishing. It has made them even more versatile than ever before. This in turn gives the fisherman more options so you can enjoy a great day of fishing every time you go out.
The tube jig that you need to use and the way that you use them will depend on the type of water in which you are fishing. It will also depend on if you are fishing for white or black crappie.
The reason this is so important is because they live in different types of water and environments so you will need to use different techniques for each.
Fishing For Black and White Crappie Using Tube Jigs
Crappies are part of the sunfish family and they are a predatory fish that will feed mostly off of smaller fish in the area.
During spawning season they will build their nest close together in small groups. The males will dig out these nests and then protect the eggs and the young. It is during this time of the year that the crappie will be the most abundant but they can be caught at other times as well.
Black crappies prefer living in cool clear water where there is aquatic vegetation. They live mostly in small ponds and lakes or near the shallow end of larger bodies of water. They typically eat small minnows and crustaceans because their mouths are much smaller than that of the white crappie.
When you are fishing for the black crappie you want to use a tube jig that ranges between one inch to one and half inches long. This will get you the best results.
The white crappies eat larger bait consisting of small fish, minnows and so forth. They can be found in the shallow water certain times of the year such as during spawning season but they prefer deeper waters other times of the year.
The white crappie is more of a migratory species than the black crappie so they move around more and they live in the muddy or dark waters. The tube jigs measuring from about one inch and three-quarters to about three inches long are the best to use when fishing for the white crappie.
