In most areas, the best months to catch tarpon are May and June. These are the normal spawning times that begin in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Recognizing a tarpon bite and setting the hook is of utmost importance. These fish eat on the move, and often rush onto the bait, actually pushing your line toward you rather than pulling it away from you. It is important to strip until you can feel the tarpon against your rod on with your hand.
