Planning Your Tahiti Vacation
The islands that are known as Tahiti are situated in a part of the Pacific Ocean that many people refer to as the Polynesian Triangle. This area also encompasses Hawaii, Easter Island and New Zealand as well. Tahiti was almost completed unexplored at all until the 1500s when Europeans began sailing to the tropical shores. This exploration began much later in Tahiti then anywhere else which is why it has been able to hold on so strongly to its roots of culture and tradition. There was a war between the French and the British for the land and both were very territorial about who discovered and controlled the land in Tahiti. The Europeans remained very fascinated during all of this with the stories about Tahiti and its tropical beauty. They also maintained a wild interest in the exotic animals and plant life that inhabited the island. The disputes came to an end though when in 1957, all of the Tahitian islands were designated as French territory. This is when they were renamed French Polynesia.
Your Tahiti vacation is sure to be exciting and jam packed with so many things to do. Every island in this territory has its own unique sense of tradition and culture so it is a good idea to plan to spend a good amount of time on each of them. The waters are beautiful so if you are a swimmer then you definitely want to schedule some time to scuba dive where you can explore the ocean life up close in a safe environment. Regardless of your interests and skill levels, a Tahiti vacation is surely something that can be enjoyed by everyone.
