Quarteira, Contemplating The Beach And The History
With two kilometres and an extensive sand dune, the beach of Quarteira started to be a popular destiny of vacations starting from the sixties, also because of its excellent climate, warm in the summer and temperate in the winter time.
All around the beach, we can find a beautiful landscape and to assure the swimmers pleasure, the place suffered a deep improvement through the construction of beach supports and of the large new Marginal Avenue.
The beach of Quarteira is known by its quality and for the white sand and the medium temperature of the water in the summer is about 22 centigrade degrees.
The visitors safety is assured by the surveillance of the Government Marine Delegation, with the presence of experienced life-savers during the summer season.
The beach has plenty of bars, restaurants and coffees on the main beach street, the Marginal Avenue, as well as restaurants and bars on the beach by itself where you can also rent awnings and chairs to enjoy the sun and the sea.
The religious traditions are also a tourist mark in Quarteira. The Church of Sao Pedro of the Sea is part of the religious patrimony of the freguesias.
Following the example of several other places and towns in Portugal, in the summer time the popular saints like Sao Antonio, Sao Joao and Sao Pedro brings a lot of colour, music, dances and happiness to the streets of Quarteira, in an authentic celebration to the popular saints of the place.
The parade along the Marginal of Quarteira, in the Infante Sagres Avenue, has several marches that represent the streets of the city, involving hundreds of people dressed with typical clothes associates to the sea, certainly something to be seen and enjoyed during your next visit in Quarteira.
For whom prefers the historical theme, the ideal is to visit the Roman ruins of Cerro da Vila, a great trip through the origins of the humanity.
The population and also the construction of Quarteira has been increasing in the last years, since most of the people have realized the pleasure of living in Algarve.
The number of restaurants, coffees and bars has also been growing, to support the tourist exhibition of that area.
Quarteira has changed a lot in the last years but it is still worth a visit, so do not miss it during your next stay in the Algarve and I am sure that you will not regret.
